Fancy Free
Fancy Free
Had a great day drawing at Granville Island with the Urban Sketchers Meetup group. We just got the OK for a Vancouver blog on the UrbanSketchers.org site. Quite a number of boats out of the water getting cleaned up for the coming season at the marina. Granville Island is a peninsula and shopping district in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is located in False Creek directly across from Downtown Vancouver's peninsula, under the south end of the Granville Street Bridge.
The peninsula was once an industrial manufacturing area, but today it is now a major tourist destination and working neighbourhood.

Seaspan Eagle
Seaspan is a large marine services company which operates tugboats in Vancouver harbour, this one is moored at the foot of Lonsdale Street in North Vancouver next to Lonsdale Quay market. They assist with bringing ships in and out of the harbour and berthing them. I have been attracted to these boats all my life. This is my go at drawing the Seaspan Eagle.

St. Patrick
St. Patricks Day Vancouver BC Canada. Erin Go Bragh!
It was a fine St. Paddys in the Gastown district of Vancouver. The Vancouver Urban Sketchers meet up group drew right at Gassy Jacks statue, just down the street from the Blarney Stone bar which featured celtic music, a pipe band, dancers and ,of course, Guinness. I drew the Europe Hotel, a flatiron shape, built in 1909, renovated in 1983 to affordable housing for the downtown east side. We had a Guinness ourselves after drawing.

Blind Contour Drawing
One of my all time favourite books is "Learning To Draw" by Robert Kaupelis. He says blind (no looking at the paper) drawings should be a continuing part of your drawing activity, for the rest of your artistic life. And otherwise, when you do allow yourself to look at the line while drawing, your eyes should be on the subject 99% of the time. I think you could have a great art life doing nothing but reading his book, doing the exercises and and following his advice. I might have peeked at the lady, only once or twice!

This is the old Canadian National Railway station at Main and Terminal in Vancouver BC. These days Greyhound,
Amtrak, Via Rail and the Rocky Mountaineer use the station. I drew this in the company of the Vancouver Urban Sketchers meet up group. We are hoping to get a Vancouver blog on the worldwide
